Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Copythorne Road area of Brixham.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has planned the work in conjunction with Devon County Council and has been working in the area since May. All going to plan the project will finish at the end of September and is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
As part of the next phase of work it has been agreed that the following traffic management will be in place:
- A road closure on Northfields Lane between numbers 1 – 7 (until 30 June)
- Motorists asked to give and take on Copythorne Road (29 June – 27 July)
- A rolling road closure on Bascombe Road, between the junctions of North Boundary Road to outside no. 64 Bascombe Road (10 – 28 August)
- A rolling road closure on Copythorne Road, between no. 2 Copythorne Road to the junction with North Boundary Road (24 August – 11 September)
- A road closure on Meadows Park, from the junction of Northfields to outside no. 6 Meadows Park (7 – 28 September)
Whilst give and take systems will now be in place until 26 June on:
- Northfields Lane, between the junctions of Lichfield Drive and Lindthorpe Way
- Elliott Grove, between the junctions of Northfields Lane and Lichfield Drive
- Lichfield Drive, between the junctions of Elliott Grove and Northfields Lane
- Whilst a road closure will be in place on Elliott Grove, from the junction with Northfields Lane to outside No 11 Elliott Grove
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £0.5 million over the next 12 months to upgrade gas pipes across Brixham. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see gas pipes upgraded across the area as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit local customers.

“Once we’ve completed this intensive phase of work, we’ll leave behind an upgraded network that meets today’s energy needs, and is ready to transport greener gases in the future. By completing this work now, barring any emergency repairs, we can avoid returning to the area and causing further disruption to the local community for decades.”
