Wales & West Utilities will return to the junction of Cathedral Road and Fields Park Road to upgrade the gas pipes during the May half term.

The work is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. The work starts on 23 May, and, all going to plan, will finish by 31 May.

The work has been planned in conjunction with Cardiff Council, and it has been agreed that temporary traffic lights will be in place on the junction for the duration. Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.

The project is part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £2.18 million over the next 18 months to upgrade gas pipes across the wider Canton area. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see over 7 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area.

Wales & West Utilities Andrew Coleman is managing this work and said:

“We know how busy this area can be and we have planned this section of work during the school holidays to minimise disruption.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
