Our Mapping Service: Gas Mains and Pipeline Maps
Before any excavation work starts, you need to know where underground gas pipes are. Our free mapping service gives you access to scaled plans of our gas distribution network, covering Wales and the South West of England.
You can access our plans through LineSearch (LSBUD) – the UK-wide service used by homeowners, contractors, and engineers to locate underground utilities before digging. It's free to use, and registration takes just a few minutes.
But getting the plans is only the start. Make sure you also read our Can you DIG it? information before work begins, and call our Plant Protection team if you have any questions about what the plans show.
What area do we cover?

What the maps show – and what they don't
Our plans show the approximate location of our gas mains and apparatus. There are some important things to understand before you rely on them.

Working near high-pressure pipelines?
There are stricter requirements if your project involves a medium-, intermediate-, or high-pressure gas main.
- A site meeting with our representatives is required before any work begins.
- No excavations can start within 50 metres of a high-pressure pipeline unless its precise route has been confirmed by us.
- You must also consult us before any excavation within 10 metres of above-ground gas installations.
