Wales & West Utilities is starting a £300,000 investment project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Goodrington Road area of Paignton.

The project, which starts on 19 October, will see over 1000 metres of gas pipes upgraded. All going to plan it will be complete by the end of March next year.

The gas emergency and pipeline service continues to work with Torbay Council to plan the project.  Between 19 October – 15 January work will be centred around Kingsway Avenue, Kingsway Drive and Grange Road, whilst the following traffic management has been agreed for later on in the project:

  • A road closure on Goodrington Road, between the junctions with Grange Road and Brixham Road (7 December - 15 January)

Lane closures on the following:

(8 – 26 February)

  • Brixham Road, from outside Eastcote to outside Four Winds (southbound)

(1 - 12 March)

  • Long Road, at the junction with Brixham Road to outside Premier Inn (westbound)
  • Brixham Road at the junction of Long Road (northbound)

Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

The project is part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £1.2 million over the next year to upgrade gas pipes across the area. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see over 7 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit local customers.

Wales & West Utilities’ Natalie Raphael is managing the programme and said:

“We’re investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across the area. We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum.

“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.

“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it."
