Wales & West Utilities is continuing its work to upgrade gas pipes across the Bickington area and is assuring local people that shops and businesses in the area remain open throughout this essential work.
As part of the next phase of work it has been agreed with Devon County Council that three-way traffic lights will be in place on Bickington Road, at its junction with Mead Park (until 15 June). This will be followed by a closure on Bickington Road, between Cedars Roundabout and Fremington Quay (15 June – 23 August). During this time traffic lights will be in place to manage traffic flow and access to residential properties. Clear signage will be in place and motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities wider work to invest over £1.8 million over the next year to upgrade gas pipes across Bickington and the surrounding areas. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see over 9 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area which will benefit approximately 1,000 local customers as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area.

“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.
“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.
“Once we’ve completed this intensive phase of work, we’ll leave behind an upgraded network that meets today’s energy needs, and is ready to transport greener gases in the future. By completing this work now, barring any emergency repairs, we can avoid returning to the area and causing further disruption to the local community for decades.”
