Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its works in the Winterstoke Road area of Weston-super-Mare.
The project began on 22 September and is on track to finish by 5 December.
Wales & West Utilities is working closely with North Somerset Council to ensure the work can progress as quickly and safely as possible, including works to allow for the safe demolition of Winterstoke Bridge.
As part of the next phase of work, two-way traffic lights will be in place on Winterstoke Road, between Broadway and Lynx Crescent (13 - 23 November). In respect of the planned section of work between Lynx Crescent and Oldmixon Crescent, this has been redesigned to minimise disruption to road users and will be carried out on the verge and in the footway to help significantly ease traffic flow.
Weekend working is also planned over the next two weeks to help keep the programme on track.
Wales & West Utilities' Joe Phillips is managing the work and said:
“We are making good progress with this project and are on track to finish it by 5 December.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“We have planned this project with the local council to minimise disruption as much as possible, but appreciate that works like this will have an impact on the local community. This work is essential, however, to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
