Westbury gas upgrade project extended to avoid further work in Spring

Posted: 09/01/2026

Wiltshire Council has agreed an extension for Wales & West Utilities to continue a project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Penwood Close area of Westbury.

The project, which started in November, was originally planned to be completed in two phases, with the second taking place during March. However, due to the extension being granted, the work will now be completed by the middle of February.

The project is vital to ensuring that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come.

As part of the extension, it has been agreed that Oldfield Road will be closed until 30 January and between 31 January – 13 February, traffic will be required to give and take.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Wiltshire Council to plan all work.

Wales & West Utilities' Simon Lee is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“This extension means that the work will now finish in February and further work on the gas network won’t be necessary.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
