Wales & West Utilities prepares for final section of Upper Weston gas works

Posted: 28/01/2026

Wales & West Utilities is preparing for the final section of its gas upgrade project in the High Street area of Upper Weston.

The project is vital to ensuring that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come. The project will bring to a close the replacement of more than 615 metres of gas pipes in the area.

As part of the next phase of the work, it has been agreed with Bath & North East Somerset Council that three-way traffic lights will be in place on the junction of High Street and Eastfield Avenue between 7pm on Friday 30 January to 7pm on Monday 2 February.

This work is in preparation for the planned road closure on High Street, between its junctions with Eastfield Avenue and Lansdown Lane, from 7pm on 13 February until 6am on 23 February.

Wales & West Utilities' Simon Lee is managing the work and said:

“This work, over the course of the weekend, is necessary to prepare for the planned closure on High Street later in February.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
