With this week being Net Zero Week 2026, we are shining a light on some of the innovative projects we have been working on which show our commitment to helping the UK achieve its net zero goals.
As a gas distribution network operating across Wales and the south west of England, we know we have an important role to play in this area and have been leading on major projects to help make net zero a reality.
Below are some examples which bring our work in this area to life:
Somerset village marks a decade of being supplied by green gas
In November 2025, we marked 10 years of supplying Nether Stowey, a rural community nestled in the heart of Somerset, with a locally produced renewable gas. Biomethane produced from a nearby farm, has been providing heating and hot baths for the community since we provided a connection for the biomethane into our network.
Supporting north Wales businesses to decarbonise
HyLine Gogledd is our proposal to build a dedicated 32km hydrogen pipeline in north Wales, from Deeside to Wrexham to support cleaner energy ambitions. The proposed pipeline would help bring hydrogen to the energy-intensive industries that account for 55 per cent of energy demand in the region.
Matthew Hindle, Head of Net Zero & Sustainability said:
“Operating such a vast network means we are in a unique position to help homes and businesses in the cities, towns and villages we serve to decarbonise. We have a team committed to developing innovative solutions which cover the whole of our operations – whether this be the kind gas we transport through our pipes or the fuel we use in our fleet of vehicles. All of this reflects the commitment to playing our part in the journey to a net zero energy system that works for our customers.
