Upgrading the gas network in Tonyrefail
Wales & West Utilities is shortly beginning work to upgrade part of the gas network in the Gilfach Road area of Tonyrefail.
The work will be ongoing between 6 October – 16 November and is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has worked with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to plan the project, and it has been agreed that traffic lights will be in place along both Gilfach Road and Penrhiwfer Road as the project progresses. Motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.
Wales & West Utilities Andrew Coleman is managing this work and said:
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
