Gas upgrade works progress in Abergavenny
Wales & West Utilities is making good progress on its gas pipe upgrade programme in the Park Avenue area of Abergavenny.
The project, which began in September last year, forms part of the wider £2.4 million investment the company is making in upgrading gas pipes, across the town, over the next year. This essential work will help ensure gas continues to flow safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
Engineers have just finished work in the Park Crescent area and have moved on to upgrade pipes along Skirrid Road.
As part of the wider investment programme, further projects will shortly begin in the Brecon Road and Union Road West area, while works in Mardy are scheduled to get underway in March. All works are being planned and delivered in conjunction with Monmouthshire County Council.
Andrew Coleman, who is managing the works for Wales & West Utilities, said:
“This overall programme will see us work to upgrade ten kilometres of gas pipes across the town.
“We are using compound areas to store essential equipment and we’d like to reassure the local community that once our works are complete, these areas will be removed and fully reinstated to their original condition.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a vital role in everyday life across Abergavenny. From heating homes and cooking family meals to enjoying a hot bath, we understand how important it is that gas supplies remain safe, reliable and available when needed.
“Our team of gas engineers will be on site throughout the project to ensure the work is completed as safely and quickly as possible, while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
