Gas upgrade project set to start in Evesham

Posted: 08/10/2025

Wales & West Utilities will shortly begin work to upgrade nearly 1,000 metres of gas pipes in the Avon Street area of Evesham.

The project is due to start on 20 October and is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing everything goes to plan, the project is expected to be completed during April next year.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Worcestershire County Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that various traffic management measures will be in place as the works progress. This initially includes a rolling road closure on Avon Street, including at its junctions with George Street, Henry Street, and Albert Road. This will be ongoing between 20 October and 30 December.

Further traffic management for the new year will be communicated in due course.

Wales & West Utilities' Mick Gallavin is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
