Devizes Road gas upgrade project progresses
Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its £120,000 project to upgrade gas pipes in the Devizes Road area of Swindon and is on track to complete the project by 10 October.
The gas emergency and pipeline service started work at the end of June and, as part of the next phase of the project, is now working on the section of road between the Salvation Army Church and Wood Street / Victoria Road, whilst another team is working along Joiner Lane.
The scheme is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
The gas emergency and pipeline service continues to work with Swindon Borough Council to plan the project, and delivery services and essential business operations will be maintained, with stewards on-site to manage access, where required.
Wales & West Utilities Mick Gallavin is managing this work and said:
“We are making good progress and continue to work with the Council to plan these essential works, and will continue to liaise with local traders to inform them of the plans and to answer any questions so that we can minimise disruption.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
