Cheddar gas upgrade project to start
Wales & West Utilities has started a project to upgrade gas pipes in the Draycott Road area of Cheddar.
The £243,000 investment project, which started this week (15 September), is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing everything goes to plan, the project is expected to be completed before Christmas.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Somerset Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place. This will ensure our team and local motorists stay safe while the work is ongoing. The traffic management will include rolling two-way traffic lights on Draycott Road (15 September – 7 November).
From 10 November, further work will be carried out on Cross Farm Road, but no traffic management will be required.
Businesses will be open as usual.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. “This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
