Bluebirds Foundation receives funding boost from Wales & West Utilities to support community projects

Posted: 14/04/2026

The Bluebirds Foundation has received a welcome funding boost from gas emergency and pipeline service Wales & West Utilities which will support new community initiatives aimed at bringing people together through sport.

The funding will be put to good use and will help the Foundation, the official charitable arm of Haverfordwest County AFC, deliver two key projects, which are designed to engage both young people and adults in the local community.

The first initiative, a Junior Supporters Club, is a five-week pilot project where doors are opened to a relaxed drop-in environment where young people can come together to play football, socialise with friends and meet fellow supporters. The programme provides a safe and welcoming space for youngsters to stay active while building friendships.

The second project, which launches in June, will see the Foundation launch a Brunch Club, which will be open to people aged 16 and over. The six-week programme is designed to encourage social interaction, promote physical activity and provide an inclusive setting where participants can meet others in the community over light refreshments.

The funding comes whilst Wales & West Utilities is working on an essential gas mains upgrade project on St Martin’s Park and Slade Lane. The project is part of the company’s ongoing programme of essential work to ensure gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.  During the works, the Club has allowed Wales & West Utilities to site its work cabin on the grounds.

Harry Thomas, Trustee at The Bluebirds Foundation, said:

“The support from Wales & West Utilities is incredibly valuable to us as an organisation, as we continue to increase our community outreach. These initiatives are about much more than football – they are about creating opportunities for people to connect, stay active and feel part of the community.

“On behalf of everyone at the Foundation, and those that will benefit from these pilots, I’d like to extend our thanks to Wales & West Utilities for their support.”

The Foundation hopes that the pilot projects will prove successful and form the basis for longer-term programmes that continue to benefit local residents.

Dean Jones, who is managing the upgrade work at Wales & West Utilities, added:

“We are proud to support the communities in which we work and are delighted to help the team at the Bluebirds Foundation.

“These projects will benefit people across the local community and we are happy to lend a helping hand to get them off the ground.”

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
