Wales & West Utilities has finished its work to upgrade the gas pipes in Cwmavon and is thanking the local community for their patience whilst work was ongoing.

The project, which started in May, was vital to ensuring that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Further work will be required after 2028 and Wales & West Utilities commits to keeping the local community updated.

Wales & West Utilities worked closely with Neath Port Talbot Council to plan the project and traffic management was in place throughout.

The project formed part of Wales & West Utilities £6.7 million investment to upgrade gas pipes in Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea Bay, helping ensure a safe and reliable supply for customers and strengthening the energy infrastructure in the region for decades to come. The intensive programme of mains replacement works will see over 29 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the region.

Wales & West Utilities' Adam Smith is managing the work and said:

“We’d like to thank the local community for their understanding whilst we worked to upgrade the gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
