Wales & West Utilities has started further work to upgrade the gas pipes in Minchinhampton by beginning a project in the Balls Green area.
The work began this week and, all going to plan, will be ongoing until the end of January next year.
The work will be carried out in phases and it has been agreed with Gloucestershire County Council that road closures and temporary traffic lights will be used throughout, as required.
The phases include:
- Phase 1 – Longford Mills to the junction of Well Hill (until 8 October)
- Phase 2 – New Road/Well Hill to the junction of West End (5 October – 13 November)
- Phase 3 - Tetbury Street (16 November – 4 December) and Cuckoo Row (16 November – 27 November)
- Phase 4 – Friday Street (4 – 29 January ’27)
Motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time and access will be maintained for residents.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities wider work to invest over £7.5 million over the next two years to upgrade gas pipes across Gloucestershire. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see nearly 26 kilometres of gas pipes across the Stroud, Chalford, Minchinhampton and Nailsworth areas as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit local customers.
Wales & West Utilities Ryan Barkway is managing this work and said:
“This work involves investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.
"We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum. We ask motorists to strictly follow the traffic management signage to keep the traffic flowing, and our colleagues safe as they complete this work.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day. While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”
