Wales & West Utilities is returning to complete its work to upgrade the gas pipes on Dartmouth Road from 4pm on 23 October.

All going to plan, this section of work will finish on 1 November. It has been agreed with Torbay Council that the following traffic management will be in place between 23 October – 1 November:

Rolling two-way traffic lights on Dartmouth Road between Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road (these will be manned 12 hours a day, seven days a week)
Road closures on Greenway Road and Warborough Road
Footpath closure on Dartmouth Road, with a pedestrian diversion route via Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road
Work was postponed last month due to limitations to pedestrian access on the footway between Greenway Road and Manor Vale Road.

The project is part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £500,000 over the next 12 months to upgrade gas pipes across the wider Brixham area. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see gas pipes upgraded across the area as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit local customers.

Wales & West Utilities’, Abby Smith, is managing the works. She said:

“We’d like to thank the local community for their understanding whilst we finish this work to upgrade the gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.

If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Trained engineers are available 24/7 to respond and keep you safe.
