Wales & West Utilities is starting work to upgrade the gas pipes in Fremington.
The work begins on 12 October and will involve a closure on the layby of Church Hill to Combrew Lane (12 October – 4 December) with traffic lights in place on the road from Church Hill to Combrew Lane (19 October – 12 December).
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities wider work to invest over £1.8 million over the next year to upgrade gas pipes across Bickington and the surrounding areas. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see over 9 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area which will benefit approximately 1,000 local customers as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area.
This section of the project follows the work on Bickington Road, which was suspended during September.
Wales & West Utilities’ Roxanne Whittaker is managing the programme and said:
“This work involves investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.
"We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum. We ask motorists to strictly follow the traffic management signage to keep the traffic flowing, and our colleagues safe as they complete this work.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day. While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”
