Wales & West Utilities is investing over £1.2 million over the next year to upgrade gas pipes in the south Paignton area, helping ensure a safe and reliable supply for communities in the area, for decades to come.
The intensive programme of mains replacement works will see the company replace over 7km of gas pipes across the area. To minimise disruption the gas emergency and pipeline service will work closely with Devon County Council to carefully plan projects and manage any necessary traffic measures.
The programme of mains replacement works will start in the Greenway Road area on 27 July and, all going to plan, this work will finish by 7 September. Further work will be undertaken in the Cherry Brook Drive, Cliff Park Avenue, Dartmouth Road and Goodrington Road areas at a later date.
During the Greenway Road section of the project it has been agreed that the following traffic management will be in place:
Motorists will be asked to give and take during the following times:
27 July – 7 September:
- Greenway Road, between the junctions of Dartmouth Road and Greenway Park
10 August – 7 September
- Old Road, between the junctions of Greenway Road and Galmpton Farm Close
- Galmpton Farm Close, at its junction with Old Road Close

“We’re investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve across the area. We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day.
“While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.
“Once we’ve completed this intensive phase of work, we’ll leave behind an upgraded network that meets today’s energy needs, and is ready to transport greener gases in the future.
“By completing this work now, barring any emergency repairs, we can avoid returning to the area and causing further disruption to the local community for decades.”
