Wales & West Utilities supports fundraising efforts for Children’s Hospice South West

Posted: 16/12/2025

Wales & West Utilities is proudly donating gifts to support the spectacular efforts of a local Bridgwater woman and her family, who are organising a special raffle in aid of Children’s Hospice South West.

The event is being led by Gill Brown, who continues to show extraordinary strength and determination after being diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. Despite this, she continues to focus her energy on raising vital funds for a charity that is incredibly close to her heart.

Having set herself the remarkable goal of raising £500,000 back in September, she is now just £8,000 away from achieving this target, and it is hoped the special Christmas raffle will break the fundraising barrier.

Gill’s granddaughter Holly Brown, from Bridgwater, explains:

“After receiving the heartbreaking news that she may only have a few months left, my nan remained determined to do everything she could for Children’s Hospice South West and set about organising this raffle, which will be drawn on 21 December.

“This raffle is part of a celebration of her life and her inspirational fundraising journey, and all proceeds will go to Children’s Hospice South West, which provides essential care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families.”

The charity operates three hospices - Charlton Farm near Bristol, Little Bridge House in Barnstaple, and Little Harbour in St Austell – all located in communities where Wales & West Utilities also works year-round to upgrade the gas pipes that keep local homes and businesses safe and warm.

Wales & West Utilities’ donation of gifts to enhance the raffle aims to help ensure the fundraiser's success.

Sophie Shorney, Engagement and Social Impact Manager at Wales & West Utilities, said:

“Gill’s courage and commitment to supporting Children’s Hospice South West is truly inspiring. Her determination to continue fundraising, even while facing such difficult personal circumstances, is incredible, and we are honoured to play a small part in helping her get closer to the fundraising goal.

“We hope our donation encourages people to support this important cause and help Children’s Hospice South West provide the vital care to families across the region.”

To purchase a raffle ticket, people can visit the Blake Hall in Bridgewater on 21 December.
