Wales & West Utilities supports Devonport Services RFC as matchday sponsor
Wales & West Utilities is proudly supporting the local community in Plymouth and sponsoring an upcoming home fixture for Devonport Services RFC.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has donated £500 to the club, which sees it become the matchday sponsor for the game against Marlborough RFC on Saturday 28 March. Wales & West Utilities colleagues Dave Edwards & Nathan Trower will attend the game and select the Man of the Match.
The sponsorship comes as Wales & West Utilities begins essential gas mains upgrade work on Rectory Road, and the surrounding streets. Starting today (17 March), the works are part of the company’s ongoing programme of work to ensure gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
The location of the works involves vehicles driving beneath a 3.4-metre railway bridge, which is the only access point to the area. This will need to be fully closed for one week (23 – 30 March) and Wales & West Utilities will be arranging for residents’ vehicles to be safely relocated to maintain access.
Within the closure area is Devonport Services RFC, which relies on this access route, particularly on match days.
Fraser Pearson, Chairman of Devonport Services RFC, said:
“We’re extremely grateful to Wales & West Utilities for their generous donation and for supporting us as matchday sponsor.
“As a club at the heart of the community, partnerships like this make a real difference and help us continue providing rugby for players and supporters across Plymouth. We’re looking forward to welcoming Wales & West Utilities to the club on 28 March and thank them for their support.”
Dave Edwards, who is managing the upgrade work at Wales & West Utilities, added:
“Projects like this are essential to upgrade gas pipes to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.
“We are proud to support the communities in which we work and are delighted to help the team at Devonport Services RFC.”
Wales & West Utilities commits to keep residents and businesses informed as work progresses and thanks the community for its patience while these vital improvements are carried out.
Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
