Taunton gas upgrade finishes ahead of schedule
Wales & West Utilities is thanking the local Taunton community after work to upgrade over 1,750 metres of gas pipes in the Bishops Hull Road and Silk Mills Road area has finished ahead of schedule.
Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities, started work at the end of March, and the project was due to finish in September; however, prioritising sections of work has allowed the project to finish two weeks ahead of schedule. The scheme was essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
The process of fully reopening the A3065 Silk Mills Road, and the lifting of the traffic management on the A38 Wellington New Road, will start to take place during the evening of 22 August, and normal bus services will resume on the morning of 23 August.
Wales & West Utilities worked with Somerset Council to plan the work, and traffic management was in place throughout.
Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker managed the work and said:

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
