Cathedral Road, Cardiff progress
Wales & West Utilities is on track to finish its project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Cathedral Road area of Cardiff by 13 March.
The bulk of the project has now finished, and the gas emergency and pipeline service began the final phase this week.
As part of the final section of the project, it has been agreed with Cardiff Council that the following traffic management will be in place:
- A closure on the junction of Cathedral Road and Pontcanna Street (until 8 March)
- This work will be ongoing next week but traffic management won’t be in place
- A closure on the junction of Cathedral Road and William Street (9 – 13 March)
The project will be complete on the 13 March, and all traffic management removed in plenty of time for the Six Nations game on the 14 March.
The project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
Wales & West Utilities' Andrew Coleman is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:
“We are onto the final stretch of the project and are on track to lift all traffic management when we finish on the 13 March.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
