Braunton gas upgrade work to begin

Posted: 18/09/2025

Wales & West Utilities will shortly begin work to upgrade gas pipes in Braunton.

The work, in the Heanton Street area of the town, will commence on 29 September and, barring any engineering difficulties, is expected to be completed by the end of November. The work is essential to keep the gas flowing reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Devon County Council, and it has been agreed the following traffic management will be in place:

  • A road closure on Heanton Street (13 October – 28 November)
  • Four-way traffic lights on East Street, Chaloner’s Road, Caen Street, and The Square (3 – 28 November)

Wales & West Utilities' Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Braunton. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
