Wales & West Utilities and National Grid once again came together for their annual charity cricket match, raising more than £1,000 in support of children’s charity Reach.

The event, now a much-anticipated tradition in the local calendar, sees teams made up of colleagues from both the gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities, and electricity provider, National Grid, face off in a friendly but competitive match.

This year’s fixture, hosted at Hopkinstown Cricket Club, attracted more than 100 spectators who enjoyed the game, a BBQ, and evening entertainment.

Wales & West Utilities’ Jordan James, who has worked for the company for nine years, played in the game and said:

“We’ve played cricket together for many years, and turning it into an annual fundraising event was the perfect way to combine our passion for the game with our commitment to the community.

“Reach does incredible work supporting children with upper limb differences and their families, and we’re proud to help them continue that vital work.”

The match raised £440 on the night, with Wales & West Utilities providing an additional £600 in match funding. Proceeds will go towards helping Reach deliver essential support services, resources, and events for children and families across the UK.

Event co-organiser, Jason Slade, added:

“The atmosphere was fantastic, and it was heartening to see the community come together in support of such a meaningful cause. We’re already looking forward to next year’s match.”

Reach is the leading charity providing support and information for children with upper limb differences and their families. Through events, resources, and advocacy, Reach helps ensure every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
