Wales & West Utilities is set to start work to upgrade gas pipes in the Badgeworth Road area of Cheltenham.

The work will begin on 7 April and will be carried out in two phases. The project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing everything goes to plan the work will finish at the end of July.

Wales & West Utilities has liaised with Gloucestershire County Council to plan the works, and it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place. This includes:

  • Phase 1 – a road closure on Badgeworth Road between the junction with Bamfurlong Lane and The Reddings (7 April – 5 June)
  • Phase 2 – a road closure on Badgeworth Road between the junction with Bamfurlong Lane and B4063 (8 June – 24 July)

Wales & West Utilities Ryan Barkway is managing the work and said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
