Wales & West Utilities is to start a £180,000 project upgrading gas pipes in Acrefair and Trevor.

The scheme, which involves upgrading 1.3 kilometres of gas pipes, is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come. The project will start on 9 September on Llangollen Road in Trevor and, barring any engineering difficulties, is expected to be complete by the end of November.

While planning the work Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Wrexham County Borough Council to make sure disruption is kept to a minimum.  It has been agreed that in order to keep the local community, road users and our colleagues safe whilst work is ongoing two-way traffic lights will be in use on Llangollen Road throughout. The two-way traffic lights will temporarily change to three-way as work is carried out on the junction with Station Road.

A two-week road closure (9-22 September) will also be in place on Tower Hill from both junctions off Llangollen Road. Access to residents will be maintained via Tower Hill by the Towers Nursery and a diversion route will be in place on the opposite junction towards the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct car park. This diversion, via King Street, will be clearly signposted whilst work is ongoing.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the Wrexham area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it. 

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.

“This work will not only keep the gas flowing safely and reliably today, it will also help make sure the gas network is fit for the future and can play its part in delivering reliable and affordable green energy.”
