Wales & West Utilities has joined businesses from across the UK in an initiative to help the country’s most vulnerable people to pull through the coronavirus crisis.
Launched by former Cabinet minister, Rt Hon Justine Greening and entrepreneur David Harrison, the C-19 Business Pledge encourages businesses to join the coronavirus effort by pledging to help their employees, customers and communities get through the crisis.
As part of the pledge, the gas emergency and pipeline service is committing to backing its three main objectives; supporting employees throughout and beyond this challenging time, supporting customers and doing what it can to help communities throughout the epidemic.
The initiative has already received the backing of employers representing over 2.9 million staff and students.
As well as Wales & West Utilities, they include bp plc, Everton Football Club, National Grid, DLA Piper, Severn Trent Water, investment firm True Potential, global publishing firm Emerald Group and software provider Advanced.
We’re aware of the important role we have to play in communities across Wales and the south west of England during this crisis – not just delivering their energy. We’ve been prioritising those most in need, and our colleagues have been helping the national effort against Coronavirus in any way they can.
Now more than ever, people are relying on us to keep them safe and warm at home and our priority has, and continues, to be to keep the gas flowing to homes, hospitals and other vital infrastructure.
I am delighted to sign this pledge, which further demonstrates how Wales & West Utilities will continue to work hard to put every effort into supporting our customers, colleagues and the communities we work in.
With the future of many employers hanging in the balance and incredibly tough times unfolding across all sectors, businesses face many incredibly difficult decisions.
But those organisations who are able to, can have a huge role in battling the impact of coronavirus and make a real difference in these uniquely challenging times.
In spite of everything, we are seeing a global response from hundreds of employers that have already shown amazing initiative and commitment to helping people affected by coronavirus. The C-19 Business Pledge is all about encouraging as many businesses and universities as possible to get involved and then helping them do that faster and better by sharing all the great work that’s already been done. The early response has been incredible and I’ll do everything I can to help to connect up business to play its role in this international effort.
