Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities is working in the Falmouth Road area of Helston for the next six weeks.
The £132,000 work, which is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come, involves two and three-way traffic lights in place on various roads in the Falmouth Road area.
Traffic lights will be in operation from 11 November – 20 December and will be situated on Falmouth Road, Gwealdues, Redruth Road, Godolphin Road, Cadnes Parc and Tenderah Road.
The traffic management plan, which has been agreed with Cornwall Council, is in place to keep the local community, road users and Wales & West Utilities colleagues safe.Wales & West Utilities has been in communication with local businesses to alert them of the essential work and all businesses will be open, as usual.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Roxanne Whittaker, is managing the work and said:
“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Helston. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
