Wales & West Utilities is to begin the final phase of its gas pipe upgrade work in the Castleton and Marshfield area which will involve working along Newport Road, also known as the old A48.
The work, which will make sure that local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply to the area for years to come, will start on Monday 19 November and is expected to last 12 weeks. Work will be carried out Monday – Saturday between 7am-5pm.
As part of the essential scheme, it has been agreed with Newport City Council that traffic management will be in place. This will include a reduction in speed limit to 30 MPH throughout the work which will protect road users and the workforce. Rolling inside lane closures on the westbound carriageway of Newport Road between the Coach and Horses Beefeater pub in Castleton and the Blooms Garden Centre roundabout will also be in place.
The £365,000 work will involve upgrading 2km of gas pipes in the area.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for the area, Francis Kirk, is managing the work and said:
“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for road users.”
