Wales & West Utilities has completed its work to upgrade the gas network in Teignmouth four weeks ahead of schedule.

The £200,000 work, which started in March in the Higher Exeter Road area of the town, was essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses. It involved upgrading 1 kilometre of gas pipe and was due to finish by the end of May but has finished early - keeping local people safe and warm for generations to come.

In planning the work Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Devon County Council.

Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker managed the gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“We’re happy to have finished this upgrade scheme ahead of schedule and want to thank everyone who lives and works in the area for bearing with us while we worked hard to complete this essential work.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Teignmouth and the surrounding areas. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
