Wales & West Utilities has completed the final phase of its essential gas pipe upgrade work in the Stratton Road area of Bude five weeks earlier than anticipated.
The £164,000 work, which has been completed in half the scheduled time, was essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come.
It was expected that works would be complete at the end of November but thanks to hard-working engineers and partnership working with local Bude representatives and traders, the scheme has completed five weeks ahead of schedule.
We’re delighted to have finished this upgrade scheme in half the expected time. Planning this work closely with local representatives and businesses helped us keep disruption to a minimum. We want to thank everyone who lives and works in the area for bearing with us while we worked hard to complete this essential work.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Bude and the surrounding areas. To power a green recovery from coronavirus, we’re working hard to keep the gas flowing safely today and to prepare the gas network to transport green gases, like biomethane and hydrogen, so it can play its part delivering green, sustainable energy in the future.
This essential work was originally planned to be carried out under a traffic light system, which would have had a significant impact on visitors to the town.
Together, with traders, we worked with Wales & West Utilities and this was changed to a one-way system, which helped the traffic flow easily through Bude.
We are delighted that this work has completed so early – ahead of the half term break and the run up to Christmas – both of which are critical times for the traders in the town. We all know how important these gas works were to the town and I’d like to thank Wales & West Utilities for working with us to plan these essential works, effectively.
