Wales & West Utilities is to kick off the new year with a gas pipe upgrade scheme in the Dawlish Road area of Exeter.
The work, which will make sure that the gas keeps flowing to heat local homes and power local businesses for years to come, will involve upgrading over 1km of old metal pipes to new plastic ones. Starting on Wednesday 2 January 2019, it is set to take 12 weeks to complete.
To plan the scheme Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Devon County Council. So the local community and road users are kept safe during the work, traffic management will be in place. This will consist of rolling traffic lights along Dawlish Road and road closures. All diversion routes will be clearly signposted.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Roxanne Whittaker, is managing the work and said:
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
