Wales & West Utilities is set to start work on a £200,000 gas investment programme which is set to benefit homes and businesses in Penyrheol and Abertridwr. The work, which will start on Monday 23 November, will bring a safe and reliable gas supply to the area for years to come.
Almost 2km of old metal gas pipes will be replaced with new plastic ones on the B4263 Abertridwr Road, Bowls Terrace, Bowls Close, Graig y Fedw, Ty Isaf and Brookside Close, Caledfryn Way and Heol Aneurin. We anticipate the work will be completed in the first week of March.
So we can work safely, there will be two way lights on B4263 Abertridwr Road while we are working, heading east from outside the Commercial Motors Garage on the B4263.
Before that, on Sunday 15 and Sunday 22 November we will be doing some preparation work on B4263 Abertridwr Road using two way lights.
This work, and the traffic management needed to make sure local people, road users and our workforce are kept safe while we work, has been agreed with the local authority. We will keep the traffic management under review as we work – to make sure we keep inconvenience to a minimum.
This essential work is part of the company’s multi-million-pound 30-year mains replacement programme, across Wales and the south west of England, which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years.

“We have agreed with the local authority that we will do this work now, before Bowls Terrace is resurfaced.
“This work will support Penyrheol and Abertridwr now and into the future, and we’d like to thank local people for bearing with us whilst we carry out this essential work.”
