Wales & West Utilities is bidding farewell to Castle Cary after finishing its £55,000 gas pipe investment work.
The company is thanking Castle Cary residents for their patience as it says goodbye to the town after completing the work to upgrade more than 150 metres of old metal pipes to new plastic ones.
The company has been busy working in the Woodcock Road area of the town since the beginning of the year and with a lifespan of more than 80 years, the upgraded pipes will make sure that local homes and businesses in the area continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.
Wales & West Utilities worked closely with Somerset County Council to plan the work and to keep inconvenience to the local community to a minimum.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Somerset, Barry Sale, said:
“We want to thank everyone who lives, works and travels through Castle Cary for bearing with us while we carried out this essential work.
“Working in areas like this is never easy but by working with the local council and schools we were able minimise the disruption to local people.”
Work in Castle Cary is part of Wales & West Utilities multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme across Wales and the south west of England which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years, to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and in the future.
