Wales & West Utilities’ team of gas engineers has bid farewell to Oswestry after the company finished work on its £98,000 gas pipe investment scheme two weeks early.
The company, which has been in the Gobowen Road area of the town since 24 April, has been working hard on its investment programme which will keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses and make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
The work is now complete and, barring any unforeseen circumstances, Wales & West Utilities will not need to carry out gas pipe replacement work for the next 80 years.
Wales & West Utilities Operational Manager for the area, Peter Hughes, managed the work and said:
“We are delighted that we’ve been able to finish this work two weeks ahead of schedule so homes and businesses in the Gobowen Road area can get back to normal.
“We know our gas pipe upgrade work can be disruptive, and we want to thank everyone who lives, works and travels through this area of Oswestry for bearing with us while we did this essential work.”

The company also has a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years, to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and in the future.
