Wales & West Utilities has completed gas pipe replacement work on Wookey Hole Road in Wells a week ahead of schedule and is thanking the people of the town for their patience.
The company, which has been working in the town since February, has been working on an essential £325,000 investment programme to replace old metal pipes with new plastic ones.
This will make sure homes and businesses in the area receive a safe and reliable supply of gas now and in the future.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Somerset, Barry Sale, said:
“We want to thank everyone who lives, works and travels through Wells for bearing with us while we carried out this essential work.
“We know that working on roads like this is not ideal but it’s essential to support the area well into the future. We are delighted that we have been able to complete this work ahead of schedule and open the road a week earlier than anticipated.
“Now that we have replaced old pipes with new plastic ones, barring any unforeseen emergencies, we shouldn’t need to return to this area of the town for at least 80 years – something that we hope will please local people across the area.”

Our team is also working on a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years, to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and in the future.
