gas investment Marlborough

Wales & West Utilities is starting the New Year with a £108,000 gas investment scheme in Marlborough which will bring a safe and reliable gas supply to the area for years to come.

The work, which will start on Monday 4 January, will take place in High Street where more than 900 metres of metal gas pipes will be replaced with new long lasting plastic ones. It is anticipated the work will take approximately 15 weeks to complete.

Ahead of the scheme, Wales & West Utilities colleagues will be visiting businesses in the town to inform them of the scheme plans and ensure that individual needs are understood. All local businesses will be open as usual whilst work is ongoing.

Whilst the work is ongoing, parking will be suspended in short sections on the west side of High Street and the one way section of High Street adjacent to St. Peters Church will be closed from 15 February for a maximum of 4 weeks.

Wales & West Utilities Mick Gallavin, Programme Controller for Wiltshire, said:

“We have worked closely with Wiltshire Council to plan this work to take place after the Christmas break to minimise disruption for local people and businesses, as well as those visiting the town.

We’ll have a team of experienced gas engineers on site throughout the project to ensure that the work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum. We are aware of the effect this work can have on local people and businesses and are working closely with the local council and traders to minimise inconvenience.

“We would like to thank people in advance for their cooperation during this important work.”

Once we start work, people can always approach the team on site with any questions or ring our customer services team on free phone 0800 912 2999 or 02921 678 455. Alternatively, you can contact us on Twitter @WWUtilities or Facebook.com/WWUtilities.

This scheme is part of the company’s multi-million-pound 30-year gas pipe replacement programme, across the south west of England and Wales, which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years.

Wales & West Utilities provides the gas emergency service across the south west of England and Wales. If anyone smells gas, thinks they have a gas leak, or suspects carbon monoxide poisoning, they should call us on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, day or night.
