Clive Book, Wales & West Utilities Head of Emergency Services, said:

“We are sorry that people in the Hesters Way Road area of Cheltenham had their gas supplies interrupted this weekend. This was caused by Severn Trent Water damaging one of our gas pipes which allowed water to enter the gas network.

“All affected homes but one – where the residents are on holiday – are now back on gas. We have left a card letting the residents know how to contact us when they return and we’ll be out to safely turn their gas and appliances back on.

“We know this incident has been very disruptive, and we appreciate the inconvenience it has caused. We would like to thank the local community for bearing with us while we got things back to normal as safely and as quickly as we could.”

Gareth Mead from Severn Trent added:

"We were working in the area on Friday to repair a burst water pipe. We're aware of the problem with the gas supply and can only apologise for the inconvenience this has caused."
