Wales & West Utilities is replacing old metal gas pipes with new, longer lasting plastic ones on Lyne Road in Newport – supporting work on a flood alleviation scheme in the area.

The work is being done by our contract partner Amec Foster Wheeler and will start on 20 June. We anticipate it will be finished by the middle of August. This essential work will make sure the area continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and into the future.

So our colleagues, road users and the local community are kept safe, Lyne Road will be closed from 27 June to the end of the work between the junction of Lyne Road and Edwin Street and the junction of Lyne Road and Albany Street. A diversion route will be clearly signposted.

This has been agreed with Newport City Council and we have worked closely with them to keep disruption to a minimum for residents and road users while we do this essential work.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Wales, Francis Kirk, said:

“We know the effect that this sort of work can have on communities, and we will have a team on site throughout the project to minimise disruption for local people and road users.

“The work on Lyne Road supports work on a flood alleviation scheme in the area and is part of our gas pipe investment programme across Wales and the south west of England, essential to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and into the future.”
