“We are in the process of completing our work on Caerphilly Road, and are on schedule to be finished and off Caerphilly Road by this Sunday. We have really appreciated the patience and support we have received from local people while we have been working on this complex project.
“Once our work on Caerphilly Road and Orchard Close is complete we will also be working on:
- Laurel Road at the junctions of Duffryn Close and Graig Close – to complete connecting the new gas pipe to the existing gas network. This will need traffic lights.
- Highfield Lane and Foxwood Close – to replace old metal gas pipes with new plastic ones. This will not need any traffic management.
- Caerphilly Close – to connect the Friendly Fox to the new gas pipe.
All work on these streets will take four weeks to complete.
“On Sunday 7 February we will temporarily return to site to replace patches of temporary tarmac with permanent tarmac. This will need two way lights only and will be finished in one day.
“We originally planned to also replace gas pipes on the Cwm Ciddy Estate from January to the Spring. This work has now been rescheduled, and we will update the local community further in due course.

“Our work in Bassaleg is the final part of a £1.65m scheme to replace more than 11km of gas pipes in Bassaleg, Machen, Rhiwderin and the surrounding area. This work is part of our 30-year mains replacement programme across Wales and the south west of England. It is supporting the wider regeneration of the Newport area and will make sure homes and businesses in the area continue to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas now and in the future.
