Wales & West Utilities is the owner, operator and developer of the majority of the gas distribution system in the Principality of Wales and wholly, or in part, the seven English south west counties and the metropolitan Borough of Bristol
The gas distribution system consists of 34,000 km of underground pipelines and 18 gas storage sites, supplying almost half the regions energy needs.
The Distribution Network receives gas from fifteen National Transmission Off-takes around the Network and transports it to the meters of more than 2.3 million industrial, commercial and domestic consumers.
Growth in Natural Gas demand continues at approximately 3% supported by a positive political environment which fosters economic development. The requirement to service this growth, maintain existing supplies and replace much of the iron distribution system employs over 2000 employees and contractors.
The company actively supports the promotion of policy frameworks which allow gas to play its full role in the local Sustainability and Climate Change Programme: CO2 emissions from own energy use; methane emissions from gas network; waste and disruption to urban and rural environment through pipeline installation and renewal and finding new ways to become more engaged with the social climate and expectation in the UK.
